There’s nothing I love more than finding a beautiful bouquet of flowers…but to be completely honest, I want them for cheap! (who doesn’t right?) Let’s face it, flowers don’t last forever and the really nice looking bouquets can be quite pricy. But the way they brighten up and room and the way they make me feel makes them hard to resist.
There are a few great places to shop for flowers that wont break the bank. My very favorite stop is Trader Joes. Most arrangements are $10-$15 and they’re really good quality. You can also look at whole foods or any other local supermarket. When selecting flowers I usually will go with one type of flower. I think it looks nicer to have a bunch of roses, or peonies (My very favorite but they’re only around in the spring. I swear my entire wedding was built around peony season.)
Ok, so now you have the bouquet at home, they’re wrapped in plastic, rubber banded together and there are more leaves on there than blooms. What now?
Step 1: Take them out of the plastic and un-tie them
Step 2: Remove all the leaves (ALL of them! I mean it! ) Look how much better they look already!
Step 3: Select a vase. For desks, dinner tables, and anywhere where you’ll be sitting I recommend a low vase. This way they won’t be in your face and you’ll actually be able to see the people that you’re dining with. You can select a taller vase for entry way tables, kitchens, mantles etc. For the rest of this tutorial I’m going to assume you have a shorter vase like me.
Step 4: Measure the hight of your vase and trim your flower stem so that the bud will sit just above the lip of your vase.
Step 5: Measure and trim all of your flowers the same height. You can use the first flower as your guide.
Step 6: Arrange them in the vase at the same height. You’ll have to play with this part. Different buds will look better in different places. For me, not every flower is going to fit in my vase. So I’ll just put the extra 4 in this bar glass.
Step 7: Enjoy your eye candy and breathe in the sweet smell of success (and your roses)
Seriously, how beautiful are these roses? Just when I think roses are boring and oh so basic I stumble across these beauties! Sometimes I have to remind myself that things are classics for a reason. These ones remind me of the sunset…How dreamy.
Oh by the way… these were $9.99! Booya! Now they look like a million bucks!
So get off your computer and drive yo-self down to Trader Joes and pick up some happiness. Psst, they make a really great gift too.
And just in case you need em’ I linked up some of my favorite vases:
Pottery Barn Monroe Vases – Simple, classic, beautiful! They come in high and low options.
Nordstrom set of 3 bird vase set I usually prefer glass vases (there’s something about seeing the water and the stems thats calming and appealing to me) but these bird vases are just so charming. I would love them for the family room mantle or my bedroom.
Target cylinder vase 6″ Simple AND affordable! Whoop!
Oh Joy! YAY Vase for Target Yay! This is so fun! I want it for my office, for the kids room, for the bar… no I’m being serious, someone buy me this for Christmakuhha!
Target footed clear vase The “foot” on this gal makes her so southern. So, “Gone with the wind” I’ll take one of these too! Thanks!
8″ square vase I’m a sucker for a square vase. It’s a little unexpected and adds a touch of modern.
Well I hope I’ve inspired you and convinced you that just lazily throwing your store bough bouquet in some water in any old vase will no longer do. Take the extra time (I mean really… this only took me like 10 minuets) to style your bouquet. You’ll then sit back and hear the “Wow! those flowers are beautiful’s roll in!
Have a very happy and beautiful day!
XOXO
